The meeting became necessary when Walco Inc., the contractor with whom the City had sanitation services, removed its garbage collection carts and services on the morning of the 30th, prior to having resolved the contract issues that exist with the City of Lapwai.
The City would like to assure the citizens of Lapwai that an interim sanitation solution is in place. Latah Sanitation Inc. will be placing temporary containers on the morning of October 1st at many of the commercial sites.
The residents are being encouraged to help with the situation by taking their household refuse to the present container site on the northside of the city. In the event, additional assistance is needed by our elderly residents; they can call City Hall at 843-2212 for arrangements.
The Council is negotiating to provide curbside service until all issues are resolved.
A new contract and provider is anticipated to be in place within two to three weeks and full services restored.
