Lapwai is surrounded with recreational opportunities. There is an abundance of beautiful clear mountain rivers and two major water ways, the Clearwater River and the Snake River for Salmon, Bass, Trout, Sturgeon and Steelhead fishing; white water rafting, jet skiing, and sailing. It is a perfect place for the outdoor enthusiast, there are rolling hills and mountain meadows as well as rugged back country mountains for hiking, camping, rock climbing, skiing and hunting.

There are also many local festivals, concerts, rodeos, fairs, shopping opportunities and even casinos for those who like to stay closer to the roads.

For sports fans, you have a choice of NAIA, WAC, and PAC-10 colleges and universities sporting events. Football fans there is minor league football team, Hells Canyon Thunder, that plays its home games in Lapwai. Each spring, Lewis Clark State College in Lewiston hosts the NAIA Baseball World Series, an event that draws national attention.? Rodeo fans, you will enjoy many regional rodeos, including the Annual Lewiston Roundup and Extreme Bulls held each September.

The area is rich with history and stories from the original inhabitants, the Nez Perce Indians, to the influx of missionaries, farmers, gold miners, Chinese and the many others who have left there mark since the Lewis and Clark Corp of Discovery came through.
